Automatic Sprinklers – GL Series

The Globe GL Series sprinkler is a low profile yet durable design which utilises a frangible glass ampule as the thermosensitive element.  While the sprinkler provides an aesthetically pleasing appearance, it can be installed wherever standard spray sprinklers are specified.

This sprinkler series is available in various styles, orifices, temperature ratings and finishes to meet varying design requirements.

At the heart of Globe’s GL Series sprinkler proven actuating assembly is a hermetically sealed frangible glass ampule that contains a precisely measured amount of fluid.  When heat is absorbed, the liquid within the bulb expands, increasing the internal pressure.

At the prescribed temperature the internal pressure within the ampule exceeds the strength of the glass causing the glass to shatter.  This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approved pattern depending upon the deflector style used.  The sprinkler and escutcheon are not factory assembled.  Assembly is done on site.

Foam Nozzle

Description and Operation

Globe’s Model JN Foam Nozzles are most typically used with various foam compounds such as A.F.F.F., Fluoroprotein, Protein and Alcohol type foam liquids for the extinguishment and/ or control of hydrocarbon based polar solvents and other flammable liquid fires.

Globe’s Model JN Foam Nozzles are available in both 3/8” and 1/2” nominal orifice sizes and have a 1/2” NPT male thread.  Globe’s Foam Nozzles are available in the open style for use with deluge systems.  The activation of the deluge valve causes the discharge of foam solution onto the floor in a parabolic shaped discharge pattern.

OSY2 Supervisory Switch

Description and Operation

The OSY2 is used to monitor the open position of an outside Screw and Yoke (OS & Y) type gate valve.

  • NEMA 3R-rated enclosure

Water Motor Alarm

Description and Operation

Globe’s Model WM and WM-2 Water Motor Alarms are hydraulically operated indoor and outdoor alarms for use with fire protection systems.

They are lightweight yet durable, and can be used in conjunction with alarm check, dry pipe, deluge, and preaction valves to sound a local alarm.

This water-powered system eliminates the need for an electrical alarm and will operate even if electrical power is lost.

Alarm Check Valve

Description and Operation

The Globe Model H-1, H-2 and H-3 Alarm Check Valves are used in wet pipe fire sprinkler systems. They primarily serve a dual purpose in that they prevent a reverse flow of water through their bodies (non-return) and also provide for the use of a hydraulic fire alarm which is not dependent upon an electrical power supply for its operation.

Through the use of a hydraulic retard chamber a time delay is provided to eliminate potential false alarms caused by fluctuating water supply pressures. Where constant pressure water supplies are used the retard chamber (time delay) is not necessary.By incorporating the use of electrical pressure switches, other supplemental alarms, annunciators etc. may also be used. A unique feature found on the Globe 3”, 4” and 6” Alarm Valves is the clapper being hinged to the handhole cover for extreme ease of removal for inspection and service.

Globe Model H-1, H-2 and H-3 Alarm Check Valves may be installed in both vertical and horizontal positions and trim can be provided for both variable and constant water supply pressures in either of these positions. The body of the Alarm Check Valve is constructed of high tensile strength cast iron having considerable ductility to reduce damage in field handling. All interior operating parts are machined from highly corrosive-resistant alloys, each having high strength and good wear resistance.

Rubber parts are of selective materials which have good abrasive resistance and long life expectancy in terms of resiliency.

FSD Flow Proving Aparatus

Description

The FSD water supply Proving Apparatus has been designed around the requirements of the Automatic Sprinkler Inspection Bureau, to facilitate the periodic testing of water supply and pressure available at The Sprinkler Installation Control Valve, for various Hazard Classes.

Approval

The Proving Apparatus has been approved by the A.S.I.B. for use in Sprinkler Systems designed to the following Hazard Classes:

  • Ordinary Hazard 5,0 mm/min
  • Extra High Hazard 7,5 mm/min
  • Extra High Hazard 10,0 mm/min
Flow Meter – LPCB Approved

Description

LPCB approved sprinkler system flow meter that can be installed between flanges (Fireflange) or with grooved couplings (Firegroove). Unit includes integral restrictor and bleed assembly, filter and drain assembly plus spare metering glass.

The preferred installation pipe layout would include the optional full bore isolating valve upstream of the meter and a control valve down stream of the meter.
